Holiday Message from Mike Schafer

Dear Friends;

It is unusually quiet in the city, and quieter still at Newman.  We miss the energy and enthusiasm of our students, their exuberance, curiosity and care for each other, especially this time of the year.  We recognize that for many young people and for many families, including our own, the past few months have been trying, from health and well being to maintaining connections with loved ones.

In many ways, during this fall, Newman has been a kind of home away from home for us.   As much as we are able, we strive to connect with each other and live up to our Cor ad Cor Loquitur motto.  Our relationships sustain us and inspire us. We are fortunate and grateful to be at a school that recognizes that kindness and positive relationships are the gateway to learning, discovery, and understanding.

The promise of our return, together with news of the vaccine lifts our spirits for a better 2021. Until then, on behalf of the faculty and staff of Newman, Gayle and I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Mike Schafer
