Welcome
First Day of School
The first day of school is Thursday, September 9. Students are expected to have their books and schedules and be prepared for a full day of classes.

Lockers
Lockers may be rented for a ten dollar fee. Please see Mr. Hartigan in the Bookstore to select a locker. On Tuesday, September 7th (New Student Orientation)only new students may select their lockers.

Ninth Grade Homeroom
All ninth graders will report to a homeroom at 7:55 AM each school day. The homerooms will be assigned during New Student Orientation on September 7th. This is a wonderful opportunity for teachers and students to get to know one another and to begin each day in amiable calm.

School Schedule
Homeroom for ninth grade students begins at 7:55AM.
Warning Bell at 8:05 (9th Graders are dismissed from Homeroom)
Bell at 8:10 is the start of First Period. All students should be in their first class.
School ends at 3:00PM

Monthly T Passes
Monthly T Passes will be available beginning the first week in September in the school office. Passes are $20.00 per month and may be purchased from Mr. Mahoney monthly or for the school year. Students who live in Boston may be eligible for a T-Pass provided by the city of Boston. Please contact Mr. Mahoney at jmahoney@newmanboston.org to see if your student is eligible.

Guitar Lessons
Ms. Stephanie Goyer will be returning this fall to offer Guitar Lessons. The lessons are an hour long workshop focused on beginner guitar and songwriting. Students will learn chords and picking technique and work on writing and singing their own music!

It's best if students have their own guitars but Ms. Goyer will offer advice on where to get affordable instruments in the first couple weeks of the class.
The lessons are every Tuesday at 3:15 beginning September 14th. Sign up for the class is in The Front Office.

Ballroom Dance Lessons
The staff from Traveling Danceport will be back this year to offer a six week ballroom dance class. The classes were a great success last year and those attending the Newman prom were treated to a great performance be members of last spring’s class.
Classes will be on Wednesdays in the front room at 3:15. The first class is September 14. Sign –up is in the Front Office.

Chess Lessons
Chess lessons will begin on Wednesday, September 15th at 3:15. Please sign up in The Front Office.

Girls Soccer Practice Schedule
Newman Soccer Coach Mrs. Magnan has set of the fall practice schedule. All practices are at Teddy Ebersol Field (on the Charles River across from Mass general Hospital). Students should plan to walk from Newman and arrive at the field no later than 3:30PM.

2011 Yearbook
Ms. Briggs is accepting orders for the 2011 Newman School yearbook until October 30. This form was included in the July parent mailing and is also available on the Parent portal of the school website.
