Detentions – Disciplinary and Academic

Students typically earn a one-hour “disciplinary detention” for a first time violation of such school rules as the dress code, chewing gum, etc. and longer detentions for more serious infractions or repeated disregard of school rules. In addition, students must meet with the Dean of Students to discuss the infractions and develop an improvement plan.

It is expected that students will serve their detentionsafter school (not during an “open” period) on the day the infraction is incurred and may be assigned a task of cleaning in the school, helping with clerical work (i.e., stuffing envelopes) or some other task that would benefit the school community. Students who incur an “academic detention” (i.e., for not submitting homework) are required to attend homework study. Students who miss detentions for any reason, are required to make up twice the amount of time the next day.
