Response to Academic Dishonesty    


Dishonest behavior is contrary to The Newman School philosophy and is an unacceptable characteristic for a Newman student; parents (or guardians) will be notified immediately of infractions of this nature.

Upon the first incident of academic dishonesty the following will occur:

All students involved will:

a) receive a minimum 5 hours of academic detention
b) receive a zero for their work
c) be required to make up their work, but will not receive credit for it
d) be required to write an essay on the moral implications of the incident (for themselves
and the others involved)
e) write a letter to their parents explaining the incident in detail, and why they made that
choice
f) meet with their teachers to explain the infraction

A PARENT/STUDENT/SCHOOL CONFERENCE MAY BE REQUIRED AT THIS TIME

Upon a second incident, students will:

a) receive a 2 day in-school suspension, during which they will be required to make up
the time missed from class and complete all class assignments and homework for the
the classes missed during the suspension
b) receive a minimum 8 hours of academic detention
c) receive a zero for the assignment and be required to make it up without credit
d) be considered for withdrawal from the course in which the incident occurred
e) be required to make up the course if withdrawn

A PARENT/STUDENT/SCHOOL CONFERENCE IS REQUIRED AT THIS TIME

Upon a third incident, students will be suspended with consideration of expulsion.
