Juniors and seniors who have a study period in their schedule and who consistently demonstrate strong academic performance, a serious approach to their studies, and mature, responsible behavior, may apply for the privilege of having an “open period on campus” and at a later date apply for an “open-off-campus” period. (Please note: written parental approval must be obtained prior to any schedule changes.) Students who have earned the privilege of an open period, who have demonstrated maturity and responsibility may continue that open period the following year with written parental permission. Students must meet with the Dean of Students to obtain a permission slip which must be signed by parents and returned to school before continuing their open period privilege.
Students transferring into the 11th or 12th grade who meet the criteria, are eligible to apply for an “open” period after the midterm of their first semester. Also, students who are on Academic Probation, or whose behavior or academic performance present cause for concern, regardless of their current grades or grade point average, are ineligible for open periods and will have an assigned study in its place.
Students who are found to be misusing any “open” period at anytime throughout the year, will immediately lose the privilege of having that “open” period and be scheduled for a study period during that time.
Students leaving the building during an open period are required to sign in and out at the office.
