Vice-president (A junior or senior who has served on Student Council). The VP assists the president and runs meetings when the president is not available.

You must be a current member of The Newman School student body to run for Class Representative on Student Council. To run for executive office, you must have been a student at The Newman School for at least one year prior. To run for President, you must have served on Student Council at least one year prior.

You must be committed to serving your fellow students and making life better at Newman.

You must be committed to attending Student Council meetings after/before school. This means you must consider your other activities before signing up for Student Council. If you play a sport, please make sure that games/practices will not conflict with your responsibilities on Student Council.

You must be willing and available to attend and run Student Council events both in and outside of school.

4. How do I run for Student Council?

To run for Student Council, you must submit an essay to Ms. Goldman explaining why you wish to run and what your plans are for Student Council by Monday, September 14th. You should then begin your campaign. You may place posters around school (NOT ON THE WOODWORK!), begin talking to people about your candidacy, introduce yourself to new students, etc.

On Tuesday, September 15th at Morning Meeting, Ms. Goldman will formally announce all of the candidates. This will give all students a chance to see who you are.

By Friday, September 18th, you must meet with Ms. Goldman to rehearse your speech.

On Monday, September 21st, you will deliver your speech in front of the entire student body and voting will take place.

5. What happens if I win?

If you win, you will sign a contract showing your commitment to fulfill your duties as a member of Student Council in front of the entire student body at Morning Meeting on Tuesday, September 22nd. You will be required to attend meetings and participate in events. Should you fail to live up to these responsibilities, a special election will take place and you will lose your position on Student Council (this will be noted on your transcript).

Please consider all commitments and responsibilities you have both in and out of school BEFORE YOU RUN!
