DESCRIPTION :
A conversational grammar text provides instruction and practice in advanced structures.
This course also provides practice in written English by involving students in writing various forms of compositions (informing, persuading, classifying, narrating, etc.), making use of outlines, rewrites and specific focus correction areas.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND REQUIRED MATERIALS:
placement test or successful completion of level 2
Side by Side Book 3 & 4 & workbooks, Secondary Edition, Prentice Hall Regents
Writing Preparation and Practice 3, Pearson/Longman
folder and 1.5 inch binder
dictionary (English/English and/or native language/English)
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:
to be able to clearly express ideas with varied vocabulary and complex sentences (in writing).
to recognize and be able to correct structural and grammatical errors in one’s own writing, speaking.
to be able to develop paragraphs into formal 3 and 5 paragraph essays.
COURSE POLICIES AND INSTRUCTOR’S EXPECTATIONS:
no grade is given on a written assignment until the final rewrite has been corrected.
homework is to be done and checked daily
absence from class is not an acceptable reason for not completing an assignment or taking a test. (It is the student’s responsibility to ask the teacher about missed assignments and tests.)
grades are based on effort put into homework and class work, class participation, tests and quizzes
only English is to be spoken during the class.
