ESL   LEVEL 3 GRAMMAR

DESCRIPTION :

A conversational grammar text provides instruction and practice in advanced

structures, covering but not limited to conditional clauses, reported speech, passive voice, embedded questions, perfect modals and phrasal verbs.  Additional grammar and structure issues that arise will also be addressed.

 

COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND REQUIRED MATERIALS:

§ placement test or successful completion of level 2

§ Side by Side Book 3 & 4  & workbooks, Secondary Edition, Prentice Hall Regents

§ dictionary  (English/English and/or native language/English)

 

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:

§ to be able to clearly express ideas with some formal organization and

            complex sentences in writing and speaking.

§ to recognize, understand and use advanced grammar and structures (i.e. passive voice and unreal conditional clauses )in reading, speaking, listening and writing.

 

COURSE POLICIES AND INSTRUCTOR’S EXPECTATIONS:

 

§ homework is to be done and checked daily

§ absence from class is not an acceptable reason for not completing an assignment

           or taking a test. (It is the student’s responsibility to ask the teacher about missed

           assignments and tests.)

§ grades are based on effort put into homework and classwork, class participation,

            tests and quizzes . 

§ only English is to be spoken during the class.
