Changing Technology
Mr.Iwanicki -2011
Course Description and Objectives:
New technologies emerge all the time, but only a handful change everything that follows in their wake and they're not always the first of their kind.
The Changing Technology course is a one semester course and we will explore 10 technologies that have done this. We will explore the impact of Zenith Flash-Matic TV Remote (1955), Sputnik (1957), Atari Pong (1972), IBM PC Model 5150 (1981), Motorola DyanTAC Mobile Phone (1983), Broadband (1995), The Slammer Worm (2003), Apple iTunes (2003), Capacitive Touchscreens (2006) and The Cloud (2010). In addition to these technologies we will explore current events in technology.
Course Materials and Policies:
Most of the research materials will be on line and I will supply other materials during the year.Grading will be based equally on class participation, quizzes and presentations. Students should be on time to class and be willing to explore other technologies. Attendence is required at all classes and tardiness is unacceptable. Please refer to The Newman School Handbook for cheating policy.
