Weakness and realistic suggestions to improve the experiment
THINK ABOUT THIS…..
Aim: copy the AIM that was presented to you. Cannot make one up yourself…stay on task
What is the control in an experiment:
• This is a standard way to compare or check that the results of the experiment are true.
• The variables are being removed that are being tested in the experiment
• The comparison is an indication of the effect of the variables.
• When it comes to drug administering, a placebo is considered the control group. Sometimes it is a sugar pill-inactive substance
KEY CONCEPT
Cannot have an experiment without a control
Procedure:
MUST BE REPEATABLE
It might seem insignificant to mention the smallest thing, but it is imperative to be exact and spell things out to be repeated
Eg. Number of stairs climbed, what songs were listened to,
If there is an equation that you are using to derive calculations, MUST INCLUDE the equation. How is another scientist supposed to know where your numbers are coming from…no one was watching you when the lab report was being written up
Tables/Graphs/Figures:
• NEED a title for all graphs/tables/figures
• Axis need to be labeled on the graph
• Pictures need to be labeled
• Needs to be typed up, unless the figure cannot be drawn by computer….it might take time to do…but it is worth it. PRESENTATION COUNTS
Conclusion:
• Discuss specifics; values that were generated in the results NEED to be referenced
• Discuss how the procedure was followed through, where there any mistakes that should not have occurred, maybe there was some redundancy that next time can be cut out
• Plans for a future experiment that could be performed- what would be changed?
• Is there any sort of spin off related ideas this lab that has given rise to
