Daily Assignments IB Math SL II - Section 1 - Mr. McCallum

SEMESTER 2:

3/28: All of Review Set 11C.

3/26: Review Set 11B evens

3/9: Review Set 11A evens

2/9: Wikipedia has a good entry on Linear Transformations. Khan Academy also has some videos on the topic (and everything else we're going to do with matrices), and for a slightly more advanced treatment similar to a college linear algebra course, see Linear Algebra Done Wrong.

2/7: Study for the quiz tomorrow. It will be very similar to the last one.

1/23: p.340 #6, 7, 8.

1/17: Read Section 12C.

1/13: Do Exercise Sets 12A.2, 12B.1 #2, 3, 12B.2 #1-3,  4(a,b,c), 12B.3, 12B.4 #1, 2, 4.

1/9: Continue working on your IAs. Next Friday, January 20th is the deadline. See me if you have any basic questions about the math or typesetting/pictures.

SEMESTER 1:

9/8: Read chapter 7, "The Binomial Expansion" (it's a short chapter).

9/9: Do #9, 23 from the handout (yes, they're difficult).

9/12: Read Chapter 19 sections A, B, C.

9/13: Read the sections on the chain rule.

9/14: Exercise 19A #1(a,e,o), 2(b,h), 3(f), 5, 7(a,c).

9/15: Read sections 19B, C on natural logs and the derivative of ln(x).

9/16: Do Exercise 19C #1(c,n), 2(e,h), 3(a,f,g), 8, Exercise 19D #3,4,6,8,12,17,21.

9/20: Finish the previous HW if you haven't already. Start on Review Set 19A, p.566 to prepare for the (yet to be scheduled) quiz.

9/26: Read Chapter 20 on the derivatives of sin/cos/tan.

9/28: p.574  #1(b,c,h), 3(b,c,l), 5(b,c), p.576  #1, 3. Take two nights if needed.

10/3: Use the diagram from class to solve p.577 #3. Also do odd numbers from Review Set 20A. Look at p.267 when doing #9.

10/7: Read the sections on max/min in Strang's Calculus text. Start with section 3.2.

10.13: Continue working on the packet. Do p.182 #69,71,74,77,78,89,91. Get at least the first four done tonight and take the weekend for the last three if necessary.

10/20: Finish the handout from class.

10/21: Read section 5.1 in Strang's text (see the link above). If you want to go ahead, read section 5.2 as well.

10/25: p.586 #2, 4(a,b).

10/27: Review Set 21A.

11/14: Read sections 15A and 15B starting on p.420. We'll start tomorrow by going over Exercise Set 15B in class. For a more advanced (and better) treatment of probability, check  this out.

11/15: Exercise 15C.1 #1, 3, 5, 6. Exercise 15C.2 #2, 3.

11/16: p. 435 #2, 5, 6. Also, continue the problem started in class until you see something familar. The problem was given one coin toss, what is P(0 heads)? P(1 head)? If you toss it twice, what is P(0 H)? P(1 H)? P(2 H)? Continue.

11/21: Read section 15H on p. 444, do #1,2,7,9 on p.445.

11/28: p.454 #1,2,6,8,11

11/30: Read section 15K on independent events.

12/1: Finish reading those two articles (here's the link to his page. The articles are from Sept. and Oct 2006.) Also read up on Sally Clark.

12/5: Finish any of the Chapter Review exercises that we haven't gone over.

12/6: Look over the IA packet I handed out today and start thinking about which problems you'll attempt.

12/10: The review packet doesn't have much integration. Make sure you know how to do the problems in Exercise Sets 21 D and 21E.1. I'll ask for exact answers for some, but also know how to do definite integrals on a calculator.
