T-Passes for the next school year will be provided at the start of school in September. Awards Night Newman's newest members of The John Henry Cardinal Newman National Honor Society were introduced Wednesday night at First Church of Boston.    The Newman School  A -Capella group performed under the direction of Carol Millard. Junior Bryan Sabbag sang a solo.   Assistand Head of School Rick Lenfest presented The Trustees Awards for Excellence  to the highest ranked student in each course.   Kathleen Read announced the Newman winners of The National Latin Exam.   Harvard Alumni  Cam  Naimi and Tom Tiffany presented The Yale Book Award to Isaac Slaughter.   Headmaster J. Harry Lynch announced that  the Class of 2013 Valedictorian is Noelle Pawlicki. Co-Salutatorians are Carmen Barsomian-Dietrich and Jaylee Boer.     Click for Awards Night Program                         Alumni News  Newman alum Emma Tiedemann   just completed her sophomore year at William Smith  College . Emma  rowed for Newman , coached by  Tom Tiffany.  William Smith was selected to go to the NCAA Div lll championships in Indianapolis.This photo is of Emma  a picture of her at the ECACs where her boat made it to the grands. What  William Smith has to say about Emmma: "Competed in the novice eight during the spring ... Won gold at the Liberty League Championships, crossing the finish line more than a minute in front of the second place crew ... Captured a bronze medal at the New York State Championships ... Reached the grand final of the ECAC NIRC ... Defeated Ithaca's novice eight and the Bombers' third varsity eight on their home course ... Crushed Rochester in the first race of the spring, winning by more than 38 seconds ... Competed in the second varsity eight in the fall ... Finished fourth in the Head of the Fish ... Placed fifth overall and first among 2V8s at the Head of the Genesee ... Won her collegiate debut in the HWS Challenge on the Canal."     IB ESS Update The ESS class is studying soil resources and learning how to test a variety of abiotic factors related to soil. All Newman students are invited to the Prom. This is not an event for seniors only. Some students bring a date to the prom but many more do not. It is an evening for music, friends, food and much and varied dancing !        Class of 2013    Seniors may pick up their engraved invitations to Graduation. They are available in the Front Office. Parents who need additional invitations should contact Mrs.Lynch to request them.    Graduation is Monday, June 3rd at 6:PM in John Hancock Hall, 200 Berkeley Street, Boston.   Students are encouraged to donate their "gently used" Newman Oxford shirts to the school - a legacy of sorts. The shirts can be dropped off at the office. 	The Newman School has been located in the Back  Bay of Boston since its founding in 1945. This location is one of the great treasures of the school. The French  and Boston Public libraries  are within  walking distance of the school. Our students are regular visitors to the Art Galleries on Newbury Street and the historic monuments of Commonwealth Avenue. We are one block from the lovely Charles River where our teams row and sail.   The finish line of The  Boston Marathon is a short distance from Newman. In the days leading up to the Marathon, our students and teachers  are everyday witnesses to marathon preparations. The grand stand seating goes up near the Boston Public Library, streets are closed to  traffic, media trucks arrive, and , finally, the Finish Line  is painted. The Boston Marathon is always held on Patriots' Day. Schools are closed . Over the years,many Newman students and staff have run  and completed the marathon and most  Newman students, staff and families have  been  to Boylston Street to  watch the runners cross the finish line. This year many members of the Newman family were at or near the site of the bombings.No Newman students, staff or family members were injured though some were close enough to see the horrific human damage. There were many acts of heroism that day and I am proud to say that some of them were carried out by Newman families , staff and students. In this time of  confusion and sadness and anxiety many have reached out  Newman with care, concern, and generosity. Students from high schools across the high school have sent letters of support and items from their schools. Neighbors have sent flowers and special treats for our staff and students. From all over the world, former students have written to send their prayers and concern. The motto of The Newman School is  "Cor ad Cor Loquitur" , "Let Heart Speak to Heart". On behalf of the students staff and Board of The Newman School, I thank all of you for your great kindnesses to The Newman School. All over Boston, at Newman and throughout this great city,  "Cor ad Cor Loquitur"  was in evidence. J. Harry Lynch Head of School

	Newman Teacher Publishes Her First Novel
	Newman Teacher 's first novel is published  Newman ESL and Language teacher, Julianne Papetsas published her first novel last fall. Ms. Papetsas grew up in Provincetown and  that is the setting for her book, Seraphine: A Provincetown Story.
