Awards Night Newman's newest members of The John Henry Cardinal Newman  National Honor Society were introduced Wednesday night at First Church of Boston. The Newman School A -Capella group performed under the direction of Carol Millard. Junior Bryan Sabbag sang a solo. Assistand Head of School Rick Lenfest presented The Trustees Awards for Excellence to the highest ranked student in each course. Kathleen Read announced the Newman winners of The National Latin Exam. Harvard Alumni Cam Naimi and Tom Tiffany presented The Yale Book Award to Isaac Slaughter. Headmaster J. Harry Lynch announced that the Class of 2013 Valedictorian is Noelle Pawlicki. Alumni News Newman alum Emma Tiedemann just completed her sophomore year at William Smith College . Emma rowed for Newman , coached by Tom Tiffany.  William Smith was selected to go to the NCAA Div lll championships in Indianapolis.This photo is of Emma a picture of her at the ECACs where her boat made it to the grands. What William Smith has to say about Emmma: "Competed in the novice eight during the spring ... Won gold at the Liberty League Championships, crossing the finish line more than a minute in front of the second place crew ... Captured a bronze medal at the New York State Championships ... Reached the grand final of the ECAC NIRC ... Defeated Ithaca's novice eight and the Bombers' third varsity eight on their home course ... Crushed Rochester in the first race of the spring, winning by more than 38 seconds ... Competed in the second varsity eight in the fall ... Finished fourth in the Head of the Fish ... Placed fifth overall and first among 2V8s at the Head of the Genesee ... Won her collegiate debut in the HWS Challenge on the Canal." IB ESS Update The ESS class is studying soil resources and learning how to test a variety of abiotic factors related to soil. The class went outside to use the Vernier probes to test soil temperature and moisture. FAFSA on the Web The Common Application Newman Prom Prom is Friday, May 24th from 7-11PM at the Hyatt Regency Boston, 1 Avenue de Lafayette (Downtown Crossing). Tickets are $80 if purchased by April 19th. After April 19th, tickets will be $85. All Newman students are invited to the Prom. This is not an event for seniors only. Some students bring a date to the prom but many more do not. It is an evening for music, friends, food and much and varied dancing ! Class of 2013 Seniors may pick up their engraved invitations to Graduation. They are available in the Front Office. Parents who need additional invitations should contact Mrs.Lynch to request them. Graduation is Monday, June 3rd at 6:PM in John Hancock Hall, 200 Berkeley Street, Boston. Students are encouraged to donate their "gently used" Newman Oxford shirts to the school - a legacy of sorts.
